In Memory of Travel

Author(s): Grant Sheehan

Travel - Narratives | NZ - Biography | Photography - Pictorial

In Memory of Travel takes the reader on a series of journeys, from the Central American coast of Nicaragua, the Okavango Delta in Botswana, and the frozen world of Antarctica to many places in between.

Author Grant Sheehan recounts not only the trails, tribulations and adventures of travelling the world as a working photographer, but he also explores the place travel occupies in our memory, and how it can and does change the way we view ourselves and the world around us.

His photographs are a curated record of what he saw on his varied travels, and his narrative captures the contaxt of the images he has selected to show what were quite often "complex experiences."

He ends with an in-depth look at travel in the immediate and mid-term future, in the context of the challenges that we are now facing, from pandemic to climactic. Although how and where we travel is being impacted, the desire to photograph what we see when we are somewhere else, experiences to recall when we are back home, will endure.
