Jack from Bluff is the story of a New Zealand fisherman whose career spans over 70 years, of blue codding, crayfishing and tuna fishing. Jack (Jackie) Cantrick was born on Stewart island and brought up in The Bluff. In 1947, as a 15 year old, he skippered his first fishing boat at Bluff and as an 86-year-old skipper, living in Nelson with his own boat the President Kennedy, a well known New Zealand fishing vessel, he was still fishing. This could well be the story of New Zealand’s oldest fisherman as well as the country’s youngest and oldest skipper of an inshore fishing boat.
