I finished this book at the beginning of the month and loved it. Murakami is one of the strangest writers I have ever read, but is quickly becoming one of my favourites. His use of symbolism and the most bizarre brand of magical realism are really appealing to me. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was literary escapism at its best. If you like magical realism and haven’t read this, do. It’s worth the 600 pages. - Holly

Haruki Murakami was born in Kyoto in 1949 and now lives near Tokyo. His work has been translated into forty-two languages. The most recent of his many honours is the Franz Kafka Prize.
