Whole is a collection of recipes assembled to showcase wholefoods, and how growing, preparing and cooking foods in their most natural state, processed and refined as little as possible can lead you to a better state of health and well-being.

There are several things a good cookbook should do: most importantly it should have recipes that work; it should be inspirational and be realistic. Whole is a recipe book that does all three. As periodically occurs, my cooking becomes uninspired and bland, and required an injection of inspiration. Whole was the inspiration I required: it is the brainchild of graphic designer Bronwyn Kan and is published by small New Zealand publisher Beatnik. Contained within its appealing orange cover are recipes from ten wholefood bloggers and entrepreneurs. Unlike the majority of cookbooks, this book is sectioned not by food type but by chef, with each recipe beautifully photographed and each section containing anecdotes and philosophies from each food creative. My copy of Whole already has a series of bookmarks in my favourite recipes. Usually I take a novel to bed to read before I go to sleep, but, moving away from normality, Whole has on several occasions been my bedtime read, probably because it’s the time I’m least likely to be interrupted when I read and it’s nice to immerse yourself in good recipes.  It’s subtitle is ‘recipes for simple Wholefood eating’ and, while some recipes call for ingredients you might not already have in your cupboard, they are all readily available, and after using them in a recipe are more likely to become regulars in your store cupboard. I’ve made some delicious food from this book. Favourites so far include: Miso and Rosemary Crackers, Creamy Mushrooms on Toast, Walnut & Sunflower Seed Paté and, perhaps my favourite and easiest recipe, one that has been quickly whipped up on several occasions since discovering it, ‘Banana Oat Pancakes’. All in all, Whole is a recipe book I would highly recommend - delicious recipes and inspiring and beautiful photography and design.- SARAH (reviewed in 'Test Kitchen')

Bronwyn Kan is a graphic designer andphotographer born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. A graduate and recipient of the Top of Class award at Auckland University of Technology in 2014, she has a passion for both fields. WHOLE: Recipes for Simple Wholefood Eating is her first book. In her spare time, Bronwyn loves exploring new places to eat, going on road trips, swimming, snowboarding and baking sweet things to share with her family and friends.
