This beautifully illustrated volume brings together the theory and practice of papermaking. Beginning with an historical overview, the diverse characteristics and qualities of paper are considered, as well as the materials, tools, equipment and technicalities involved in its origination. One novel aspect of papermaking is its manufacture from recycled jeans, an ecologically sound yet traditional method for recycling rags. A section is devoted to paper fibres and three samples are included. Paper concludes with a series of step-by-step creative exercises, including how to build a home press, making a sheet of paper and adding decorative materials to paper.
