Beryl Taylor was born in Rotherham and grew up in the Manchester area where, after showing artistic talent, she studied at the Manchester High School of Art. She spent many years as a nurse until her artistic leanings were reawakened when she discovered creative embroidery. She trained at the City & Guilds textile and embroidery programme and later started the textile group Threadmill with other City & Guilds graduates. She now lives in New Jersey, USA.
